South Ram Quarter Horses

Our Quarter Horse History...

PRETTY!

Our Quarter horse string began with a King - Three Bars bred mare.  That foundations established the need for heart & a good mind.  A Jackie Bee/Two Eyed Jack mare and Doc's Lynx stallion are to blame for the quarter horses in our herd. These horses have to not only be in the broodmare string but they must work for a living! A recent "Western Horseman" magazine had an issue on the top 10 Stallions that contributed to the Ranch horse industry.  We are pleased to not the breeding lines of our remuda, Jackie Bee #9, Driftwood #5, Two eyed Jack #4 Doc Bar #2 & Little Peppy #1.  We truly appreciate the heart and patience of this string.  We start our young horses early!  They follow their moms down the trail as mom carries trailriders, hunters or packboxes.  These mares are sound, sensible, versatile with lots of bottom.  Why breed otherwise.

We try to get on the youngsters as two year olds but only if they have "grown up".  Packing and round pen training begins as three & four year olds.  Good feet & especially good backs are essential but without heart they won't last long in the mountains, cattle pens or ranchland.    They spend quality time in a round pen learning to face up and stand quiet for bomb-proofing. Riding begins in a halter, staying soft and supple. There are many hands on theses horses in their years ahead.

South Ram Horses For Sale..

We don't often sell our horses but keep them in the string. We will post any horses made available.  We have some new horses available this spring (2009), and you can see them below!

One four year old Paint mare, very well broke. Soft and sensible. Lil is pretty and classy. Sound and stylish. $3,000

Kiwi is a seven yr old AQHA mare, very quick, smooth spin, deep stop and soft. Kiwi shows keen cow sense and needs to be behind one somewhere. $5,000

These horses have the miles out in the hills and around the ranch. Not just arena broke so you can actually use them.

Our stud, South Ram Dan is a three yr old gray, 15’ good minded colt. We will pasture breed or hand breed outside mares for $400. Huck is from working horses and is starting to work well himself.

Congratulations to Pioneer Ranches, proud new owners of Matt & Festus!

Lil

Lil is a 2005 foal off of South Ram Moses and a grade paint mare.  Lil has spent her three year old summer at our trail riding area being trained by Andrew Anderson.  Andrew is a Montana hand!  He works quietly and efficiently encouraging athletic potential and confident work habits in his horses.  We were blessed to have him training this season.

Lil is correct, 15 hands, excellent feet and bone and most of all she is a sensible young mare.  We believe she can go any direction, cattle, barrels or gymkhana events for riders that will expect her to show up!

If you have a teenager who can work with a young horse and wants some style and color give us a call.

Lil is worth $3,000 to us, what’s she worth to you?

South Ram Kiwi

May 17, 2001
Quarter Horse (4158319)
Red Dun Mare
15.1 Hands  ~  1050 lbs
Kiwi is available for sale ~ $5,000.00

Kiwi is as pretty as she is smart.  We are raising horses that can work in the mountains but they will truly shine in a ring or on a ranch somewhere.   Kiwi is sassy, keen and a go getter.

Kiwi has been a guide horse for the past two years and she never hesitates to do what she is asked, just like her mom.  We would like to see her go to a younger girl that wants a good horse for 4-H, rodeo and Kiwi will do it!

Blue

This is also a 2005 filly.  Must have been a good year.  Blue spent her summer in the mountains being ridden and packed on the trail.  She is a solid mare at three yrs old, 15 + hands, weighing 1150 lbs, good foot and back.  This mare will work for anyone showing promise as sensible and willing.  Andrew also worked with the mare and since the summer Blue has gathered cattle and worked around the ranch.  She is kind, easy to catch, trim, load as well as her tolerant attitude around horses and cattle.  She does like to work in a calm cool manner, settles into her job like a seasoned horse wherever she is.  Color, class and confident.  Just the way we like to raise them!

Blue’s pedigree is available and we are asking $4,000.
