Our Quarter Horse History...
Our Quarter horse string began with a King - Three Bars bred mare. That foundations established the need for heart & a good mind. A Jackie Bee/Two Eyed Jack mare and Doc's Lynx stallion are to blame for the quarter horses in our herd. These horses have to not only be in the broodmare string but they must work for a living! A recent "Western Horseman" magazine had an issue on the top 10 Stallions that contributed to the Ranch horse industry. We are pleased to not the breeding lines of our remuda, Jackie Bee #9, Driftwood #5, Two eyed Jack #4 Doc Bar #2 & Little Peppy #1. We truly appreciate the heart and patience of this string. We start our young horses early! They follow their moms down the trail as mom carries trailriders, hunters or packboxes. These mares are sound, sensible, versatile with lots of bottom. Why breed otherwise.
We try to get on the youngsters as two year olds but only if they have "grown up". Packing and round pen training begins as three & four year olds. Good feet & especially good backs are essential but without heart they won't last long in the mountains, cattle pens or ranchland. They spend quality time in a round pen learning to face up and stand quiet for bomb-proofing. Riding begins in a halter, staying soft and supple. There are many hands on theses horses in their years ahead.
We don't often sell these horses but keep them in the string. We will post any horses made available.

South Ram Kiwi
May 17, 2001
Quarter Horse (4158319)
Red Dun
Mare
15.1 Hands ~ 1050 lbs
Kiwi is available for sale ~ $6,500.00
Kiwi is as pretty as she is smart. We are raising horses that can work in the mountains but they will truly shine in a ring or on a ranch somewhere. Kiwi is sassy, keen and a go getter. I am going to start her on barrels this winter as I believe that is where she should be. She does have cow sense, is extremely quick and likes to move. You don't have to put a strong leg on her.
Kiwi has been a guide horse for the past two years and she never hesitates to do what she is asked, just like her mom. We would like to see her go to a younger girl that wants a good horse for 4-H, rodeo and Kiwi will do it!

Docs Pawnee Bar
We bought Gunner as a 2 yr old and quickly put him to work as our herd sire at the time. We broke Gunner, used him at brandings, around the ranch and eventually sold him as a ranch broke gelding. The buyers appreciate him as a cow smart ranch/rope horse. This is a picture of Gunner as a three year old. As his kids get older and work more we realize what a good sire we had. These colts have the jam and athletic ability we needed to put into the herd.

Vantastic Bardot Too
Baal was bought as a three yr old from Nutting Quarter Horses. Baal was named to remind us that we should not put such an attachment to the horses that it distorts what really matters! Her training began in the high country and proceeded into the arenas and ranchland like many of our horses. Baal is an amazing, kind and talented horse. She was Sharmane's CEF Coach Clinic horse as a four & five yr old, the girls used her in 4-H and Cow Horse Classics. She has won the Caroline Stampede Pack horse race twice, used on the ranch as whatever!!! Yet can go to a trail, pleasure, reining or roping and never falter. We have three foals and another on the way. She is now retired to the "dude" string with her little ones trucking along behind her. She is a solid mountain horse with absolutely no malice. Baal is the one we trust to put our most timid rider on.

South Ram Moses
May 15, 2002
Quarter horse (4224277)
Grey Gelding
15 hands ~ 1100 lbs
Moses is available for sale ~
$6,000.00
Moses has been a welcome addition to the horse herd. We are starting his two year olds and they continue to show the traits that prove this line of horses tough. They don't waste time bucking, are friendly from the start and just want to go to work.
Moses worked in the pack string as a three and four year old stallion never giving any indication that he had "other" things on his mind while working. He is steady, strong and stable & has a great disposition. We have used him in branding, skidded logs and he is absolutely spook proof. He is the best lead horse I have ever rode.
We don't think there will be another like him although we have kept his son for our replacement stallion and already he shows the same coolness.
Moses lopes a circle well, stops hard and has the build to stand up to the work. He is for sale but will stay here until the right owners show up. A horse you can do anything off of is hard to find!
See J Jewel
Matriarch of our horse herd. Jewel was an all round horse, friend, instructor for our girls and she was an amazing mother. She left her stamp of a beautiful head, a good foot, style & heart. Jewel is pictured here with Josey as her 4-H horse. We were blessed to have this quality of mare to teach our girls to ride and experience the thrill of performance on a star. Always true and reliable Jewel endured a wolf attack, overcame being hamstrung and continued to show and have six more foals. We retired the old grey mare but there are lots of stories of her around the campfire or dinner table. She was truly one of the family. Many, many of her kids, grandkids and great...grand kids are pictured on this site.
